Description
Talisker 57° North
The Talisker 57° North is a special bottling of the Talisker distillery, which emphasizes its wild and stormy character. Located on the banks of Loch Harport, the salty climate on this western-most island in the Atlantic Ocean is definitely reflected in the excellent whiskies from the Talisker distillery.
The name 57° North stands for its geographical location, which represents one of the most north-western parts of Europe.
On the other hand, the „Talisker 57° North“ is also bottled with 57% of alcohol, thus a very strong whisky, which you might actually enjoy with a few drops of water.
Where does it come from?
The Talisker distillery was built by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill in 1830 at Carbost on the shore of Loch Harport, despite opposition from the local clergy. After many economic ups and downs, it closed in 1941 to preserve its barley during the war. The stills destroyed during the war were originally rebuilt. Today the distillery belongs to the Diageo group and is famous for its very intense, aromatic island single malts, which are traditionally a well-balanced combination of spicy, powerful, rich and sweet elements.
How does the Talisker 57° North taste?
The 57° North is one of their extremely powerful single malts with an exceptional high alcohol content. This may contribute also to the famous chili-catch, this peppery-spicy note, which is very pronounced in this bottle. And on the other hand its also a wonderful combination of the typical smoky-maritime distillery character with fine spices, juicy citrus fruits and aromatic coffee scents in the finish. Maturing in re-fill Ex-Bourbon casks, the Talisker 57° North is a stormy and wild, but yet complex Scotch, which definitely should be part of the collection of a Talisker fan.
