Aberfeldy 21 years single malt
Even at first glance, the 21 year old Aberfeldy impresses with its exceptionally elegant packaging, which is an eye-catcher on every whisky shelf. But we are also impressed by the noble senior in the bottle with his expressive character.
Elegant notes of honey and vanilla combine with fruity orange aromas and floral aromas of heather and wild flowers. It was matured extensively in ex-bourbon barrels, which provided spicy oak notes and lightly toasted aromas. The subsequent maturation in sherry barrels added further nuances to a complex and balanced variety of flavors.
Where does it come from?
The Aberfeldy Distillery is located in the Highlands, in the heart of Scotland, and has been convincing us for decades with traditionally produced, high-quality whiskies. However, Aberfeldy single malts are not yet everywhere popular, as only a small part of the annual production is bottled as single malts of proven age in the classic range. A large part is used for blending their own creations.
The 21-year-old single malt is a wonderful, well-matured Highland Scotch. The honey-golden color is reminiscent of the Aberfeldy gold, which can also be found in the company colors. It is stands for the actual gold traces in the natural spring that Aberfeldy uses for production. So we actually have indeed a little bit of gold in our glass here.
The high age of the Aberfeldy 21 years is clearly recognizable in its complexity, especially if compared to the younger bottlings.
However, the price for a 21 year old Scotch is quite reasonable.

Type: Single Malt Whisky
Nose: Already in the nose you can tell the age of this 21 year old single malt senior. Complex and tempting, it smells of sweet honey, vanilla and blooming heather, followed by fruity aromas of peach and melon, accompanied by spicy oak notes.
Palate: Intense and yet soft and velvety on the tongue, with notes of wild honey and orange peel, creamy vanilla and some toffee. A spicy dryness with aromas of citrus, freshly cut hay and a little coconut remains on the tonuge. And – surprisingly for an Aberfeldy – a slightly leathery note that almost reminds of a subtle smoke aroma.
Finish : Long-lasting and smooth finish, slightly dry, reminiscent of spicy oak and delicately roasted malt.

This is a great Highland Single Malt, great honey and almond notes and in a good combination with oak aromas in the finish. And it comes in a very attractive package. Ready to give it away as a noble present.
