Description
Glen Moray 15 years Single Malt
The Glen Moray 15 year old single malt is one of the smooth and light Speyside whiskies, a perfect introduction into a relaxed afternoon. The interesting combination of aromas arises from the storage in American bourbon barrels, a finish in Oloroso sherry barrels and a delicate smoky note. It is subtle enough to leave the taste buds open for other flavors, but still has a distinct own character. At the age of 15 there was enough time to extract also the beautiful amber-gold color out of the barrels. Therefore, the Glen Moray 15 years is bottled without coloring and non chill filtered. It is part of the Elgin Heritage Collection of 3 bottles with age confirmation, next to an elegant 12-year-old and a particularly complex 18-year-old single malt.
How does it taste?
Well-matured, it starts with a sweet sherry aroma, butterscotch and a light smoky note in the nose. On the tongue, the sweet notes develop with a hint of honey and the fruity aroma of a heavy red wine. The wooden notes from the American oak barrels add the taste of fine spices and dark bitter chocolate, which is still noticeable in the long-lasting finish.
Where does it come from?
The Glen Moray distillery has been producing whiskies on the banks of the River Lossie outside Elgin, one of Scotland’s oldest towns, since 1897. The water for production is taken from a source of the Lossie, which also defines the landscape around the distillery. The distillery’s logo shows a bee in front of its hive, which is supposed to remind of the sweet honey aromas of their single malts. During the distillation process, a delicate honey scent also hovers over the distillery area, which – so claims the distillery manager Graham Coull – attracts the angels. 😉
In any case, the Glen Moray 15 year old is a very pleasant and smooth, but still characteristic single malt, which, as a Speysider, delights lovers of slightly smoky whiskies.
