Description
Old Pulteney 18 years single malt
The Old Pulteney 18 years single malt is one of the intensive and complex single malts of the traditional distillery Old Pulteney on the north-east coast of Scotland. It places its whiskies under the motto “the maritime malt” and is particularly devoted to the sea and seafaring. The visitor center is also decorated with a ship´s wheel. And under the flag of the distillery a sailing yacht circled the world and brought their famous Scotch and the brand to different countries.
Awarded whiskies
In their classic range, the 21-year-old single malt was once voted the “best whisky in the world”. But it is no longer available. However, it has now been replaced by the Old Pulteney 18 years, which is appreciated by whisky fans, who love a combination of fruity sweetness, distinct oak aroma, and a maritime note.
18 years maturation in second fill American ex-bourbon barrels made of white oak and 3 months in fresh Oloroso sherry barrels, plus a strong pinch of North Sea make the Old Pulteney 18 years something special. It is not colored, not chill filtered and filled with 46%.
How does it taste?
The decorative bottles from Old Pulteney all have the shape of their unusual pot stills, which provide a particularly fine aroma with large boiling balls.
It smells of chocolate, creamy vanilla, delicate spices, and sweet honey. The spices are also clearly recognizable in the taste, Christmas cake, a little pepper and a good pinch of sea salt are transformed into light floral and fruity apple and citrus aroma. In the finish it becomes a little drier, but wonderfully balanced and warming.
The price a bit higher, of course, but overall, much more intense than the 15-year-old.
Old Pulteney 18 years – a wonderful, long matured single malt from the far north of Scotland.
