Bowmore 25 year old single malt
The Bowmore 25 years single malt is a unique Scotch that matured for a quarter of a century in American ex-bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. Since 2017 it comes with a new decorative design in an elegant copper brown / black packaging. The whisky itself has a beautiful mahogany color and promises a taste experience that was also awarded the gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2016. Due to the high demand, it is now rare on the market and not always available. The number of bottles per customer may be limited.
Hand-made taste from malt to storage barrel
Bowmore Distillery, founded in 1779, is the oldest distillery on Islay. It is located in the bay of Loch Indaal on the southern coast in a picturesque village of the same name and can be easily observed from the small harbor. Their whisky is – like almost all Islay whiskies – smoky, with Bowmore having a rather moderate smoke content. Bowmore is one of the few distilleries which do not buy their malt but still run their own malt house. Therefore, the characteristic taste is partly created already at the stage of smoking their malt only for their own production.
As you walk around the distillery, you come across a saying by the Scottish author Iain Banks: “You should seriously think about wasting your money on whisky if you couldn’t find a Bowmore to fall in love with. ” A suitable candidate would be recommended here with the 25-year-old single malt.
How does it taste
The Bowmore 25 year old single malt already shows intense fruity sherry notes in the nose, which are surrounded by soft smoke. On the palate, it combines fine aromas of pickled fruits with delicate toffee and hazelnut chocolate notes, as well as fine, well-balanced smoke, as you can expect from an Islay whisky. A complex, balanced finish makes this noble senior a very special experience.
