Caledonia 12 years Single Malt from one of the smallest Distilleries in Scotland
Caledonia 12 Year Old Single Malt is an outstanding scotch creation from Edradour, one of the smallest distilleries in the Scottish Highlands, near to the village of Pitlochry. The hospitable family business only produces approx. 130,000 l per year and still works mainly by hand, according to old traditions – and always with dedication and at a high quality level.
The owner Andrew Symington is known for his willingness to experiment with a wide variety of barrels for the maturation of his whiskies. As a result, there is a broad portfolio of single malts to discover at Edradour. And the Caledonia 12 years is a special one, which comes with a beautiful story.
The love for Scotland in a glass
“Let me tell you that I love you and think of you all the time … Caledonia you´re calling me and now I´m going home …” Scottish folk musician Dougie MacLean sings in this song in 1977 about his longing for his Scottish homeland. Inspired by this song, the composer and Andrew Symington together created a wonderful Scotch that fascinates both lovers of good music and good whiskies.
How does it taste?
Behind this melancholy story of “Caledonia” stands a 12-year-old scotch, which is one of Edradour’s most successful single malts. Its rich sherry aromas come from the extremely long 42-month finishing in Oloroso sherry barrels. The sweet aromas of dates, nuts and honey lead to a wonderful complex combination with the wood and tobacco notes from the ex-bourbon barrels. An absolutely pleasure for lovers of non-peated, deeply sherried Highland whiskies!
Enjoy this impressive scotch together with the dedicated song.
