Talisker Distiller´s Edition 2010/2020 single malt (other editions on request)
The Talisker Distiller’s Edition is the annual bottle from the Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye, which is now part of the Diageo Group. At the Diageo distilleries, it is customary to provide the Distiller’s Editions with the same basic maturation as the standard bottlings. After that follows a finish in special barrels. For the Talisker Range, the basic maturation is 10 years in ex-Bourbon barrels. Afterwards, Amoroso sherry barrels were selected for the finish, a dessert sherry, consisting of a mixture of PX sherry and boiled-down grape juice. The result is a particularly sweet and mild sherry. These barrels are now used for a several month maturing finish of the Talisker Distiller’s Edition. It also belongs to the Distiller’s Editions of the Classic Malts of Scotland that we usually expect during autumn period. At 45.8%, it has the typical alcohol content of the Talisker distillery.
How does it taste?
In the nose you can immediately feel the soft wood fire smoke, with fine hints of ash. This is followed by notes arising of red berries, ripe grapes and sweet cocoa, arising from the Amoroso Sherry casks and continuing also on the palate. And – typical of the Talisker whiskies – the Distiller’s Edition presents behind this first impression the slightly salty iodine taste that is reminiscent of beach and sea, as well as a distinct peppery-spicy note, which is known as “chili-catch” at Talisker whiskies. A great combination that leads to a full-bodied, sweet and smoky finish. Definitely worth taking the time to enjoy this complex creation of deep and rich flavors.
The Distiller’s Edition is a little surprise every year, which can differ slightly from the other annual editions. So far, however, all editions have been complex and luscious single malts worthy of representing the distillery. Although the age is not indicated on the bottle, it is clearly a well-matured scotch that has the right sparkling freshness for the start of a beautiful evening.
We are offering here the 2020 edition. (If you are interested in other editions, please let us know.)
